Here is a film that I believe has a lot to offer to the public. A film that not only gives an excellent and realistic look at what life was like in 1950's Boston, but also offers insight into the social and personal lives of those in the small town of Eden, Massachusetts. To make a film like this is a challenge to a filmmaker. But to put the effort into it and make a film that both entertains and educates, is not only a challenge to the director, but also to the audience. In this case, the director, Brian Helgeland, has accomplished both. With this film, he has come up with an eye-poppingly beautiful look at a very important part of American history, but has also crafted a compelling story, that will leave you with a great deal of emotion. The film stars George Clooney and Colin Farrell as a couple that were married for nearly 50 years. George, a mild mannered, middle-aged, highly successful attorney and Colin, a well-known actor and playwright, are in their 80's, and are about to turn 80. Their wives, Jane and Esther, are in their 50's, and they are separated. Jane is the very private one, while Esther is the loud and boisterous one. While there are no surprises, there are some exciting scenes, that are really very moving, and some, that are very sad. George and Colin's separation is really one of the best scenes in the film. They were supposed to be married for 50 years, but at the end of that time, they had to make a decision about their relationship. This scene is really very sad, because it seems as if the couple didn't even know each other very well, and now they are separated. George, realizing that his wife may not be the woman he expected, and that the reason he married her, was not because he needed her, has a real struggle in his life, and a really great movie to look at his life. Colin Farrell is also good, as the husband, who is not as good at dealing with his wife's loss, but who is going to try to do the best he can. But the real star of the film is Jane, the quiet, shy, and somewhat withdrawn, woman. She really made me realize that she is probably one of the most underrated women in America, and deserved her Oscar for her role in the film. The rest of the cast, including the two actors that played George and Colin, were also very good. The film was also beautifully shot, and it was really enjoyable to see George Clooney and Colin Farrell together on screen. It is a very emotional, and very touching film. The only problem with the film, is that there is one scene in the middle of the film, that really does not make sense. But I have to say, that that is not really a problem, because you don't need to make that scene. It is just one of the many moments that you will see in the film. Overall, this is a very great film, that will keep you watching, and looking for the next scene, that you might be disappointed about, but it will always be a great film. It is a very good movie, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the American social and political history. 8/
