A seemingly insignificant man begins to suffer from the effects of an accident which left him with a fractured skull and a permanent limp. Although it is hard to tell how much this movie is based on real events, it certainly was not hard to recognize the manner in which the story was presented. The first third of the film is essentially a sort of documentary about the man's struggles, but we get to see the man and his family just a few minutes each, and after that we're back to the ordinary. We never really get a clear sense of the man's condition, and the way the story unfolds is certainly very different from the way we're presented with it in the beginning. The character is fascinating, and his struggle and pain is shown in a very realistic and sensitive way. We see how the family reacts to the loss of their son, but it is also the family's reactions to the man that are most interesting, and it is here that the film really shines. The young son, who is supposed to be the most independent of the family, is extremely concerned about his father's condition, and by the end of the film he seems to be convinced that he needs to do whatever it takes to save him. On the other hand, the man's wife, who has a role as the protector of the family, shows her concern for her husband and the relationship they have, but this is really more of an emotional reaction than an active reaction. The movie is definitely a very sensitive one, and we see the real man's struggles as he struggles to recover. I found it a very honest portrayal of a very difficult situation.
