I can't recall any movie with such a realistic view of social interactions. Any idea what the movie would be like if it were made as a docudrama? Maybe a documentary on post-1968 African American civil rights movement. A hip hop film that's way better than a rap movie? Hardly. This movie gives you a sense of real life and the events that were shaped by it, giving you a real insight into it's roots. This is the kind of movie that should be made. For some reason, I've never heard of this movie before. I was lucky enough to go to a preview of this movie last week and I am still impressed with the way this film was shot and how they used the cameras. The way the people interact with each other on camera was absolutely real and never came across as contrived or forced. All of the actors were excellent. Even the teenagers who played the characters. This movie has a lot of relevance for me. I went to Africa as a teenager and went to the old stomping grounds of the "big city" and was very well aware of what life was like there. A lot of the things that happened there were not only politically incorrect but very disturbing to me. It was especially disturbing to me, a white kid, to see so much of my own family treated so poorly and my own community treating people like me so badly. The language was intense and violent. I don't know how this movie can be labeled as a comedy. There was an underlying sadness and sadness that was building up and is hard to explain. This movie should be made and made widely available. It should be seen by every person who has a sense of curiosity about life, especially about African American history and culture. I think it is a rare gem. I cannot recommend this movie highly enough and will have to find it again on DVD and probably watch it a dozen or so times. There are certain moments that I would like to see in a movie again, like the scene with the old civil rights leader and his son, and how the father deals with it.
