A bold new direction for the original anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam's most enduringly successful feature film. The sequel takes the long-standing formula for the original anime series and further enhances the anime into an action/adventure. In the follow-up, the war between Earth and the Char'aad has escalated into a galactic conflict between the Principality of Zeon and the Free Planets Alliance. The young Zechs Artois (voice of actor Yuji Naka) has been taken into custody on Char'aad, the largest and most powerful of the Federation's colonies. Though the Zeon leadership demands the extradition of Zechs, the Federation will not accept his return until the Federation army has wiped out Char'aad's remaining forces. Meanwhile, the commander of the Federation army, Guntram Von Braun (voice of director Tomino Masaaki) is desperately searching for the escaped Zechs, and has uncovered a mystery about his missing comrade. Zeon is not at the top of the political ladder, and a military rebellion is gathering momentum in the colonies. To lead the war, the Federation has assigned Lieutenant-General Heinz Briggs (voice of voice actor Danny Inosanto) to lead a joint Zeon and Federation offensive in Char'aad. Briggs and his men have been ordered to destroy the Federation army and the Zeon leader, Char'aad. The Federation has never done such a thing before. Though the Federation army has been decimated, the Federation still has more than enough troops to fight the war. Briggs and his men have already been captured and taken into custody by the Federation forces, and Briggs has discovered a secret Zeon base deep in the mountains of Char'aad. It is at this base that Briggs has discovered that the Federation army is hiding the truth behind Char'aad. The Federation army has also discovered that Char'aad's most powerful weapon is a prototype mobile suit. It is this mobile suit that is capable of destroying all the Federation's mobile suits. The mobile suit has the ability to destroy all mobile suits in one shot, and it is this mobile suit that is now the weapon of choice for the Federation army. Briggs and his men must join forces with a squadron of Zeon forces led by Captain Lysette Maria Rambeau (voice of actress Miyuki Suzuki), and they must launch a daring attack against the Federation army. It is up to Zechs, Zechs' ace pilot, and his Zentradi to stop Briggs and the Federation army from destroying their mobile suits. There are some major differences from the original series. In the original series, the Zeon and Char'aad wars are not seen from the Federation's side, but from the hands of the Zeon resistance. In the sequel, the Federation armies have become the main enemy, but the rebel army is not at the forefront of the story. As a result, the story becomes a bit more convoluted. However, the film is still enjoyable. The film is pretty much based on the same formula that made the original series so popular. The story is a little more complex than the original, but still has the same qualities. The action sequences are still stunning, and the fight scenes are very well done. The film also contains some well-done humor. The characters of the original series were not as developed as the original, but the characters of
