Description Lamb, based on the novel by Bonnie Nadzam, traces the self-discovery of David Lamb in the weeks following the disintegration of his marriage and the death of his father. Hoping to regain some faith in his own goodness, he turns his attention to Tommie, an awkward and unpopular eleven-year-old girl. Lamb is convinced that he can help her avoid a destiny of apathy and emptiness, and takes Tommie for a road trip from Chicago to the Rockies, planning to initiate her into the beauty of the mountain wilderness. The journey shakes them in ways neither expects.

A star studded cast brings this story of a small town family whose lives intersect to the point of showing the suffering of being without their son and the turmoil of having to have to be apart of this family while the family still wants to take care of each other. This film is not for everyone. It may be one of the most powerful films ever made about the pain of family loss. It is also very realistic and heart-wrenching. As a mother myself, I can relate to the pain of losing a child and the very difficult and disturbing task of trying to keep the family together. It is very difficult for those who have had to deal with loss in their own families. This film has been described as a 'personal tragedy film' and that is a fitting description. The script is very moving and well written. The direction and editing is very good. The photography is just wonderful. The cast all did a wonderful job. The young actors all did a wonderful job. The mother was extremely vulnerable, the son very human and yet very human. The father was very compelling. All of the family came across very well. There was no one in the film that was unlikable. In fact, the father was the perfect example of someone who would do anything to protect his family. I highly recommend this film. I know it was a difficult film for all of the actors to do and it is difficult to pull off the acting, but I think the actors did a terrific job. The performances from the young actors are outstanding. My only criticism of the film is that the conclusion of the film is a bit abrupt and does not follow the story that well. I am sure there will be many people who will find this film very moving and very powerful. I personally do not agree with this ending and would have liked to have seen more. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to see a powerful film that will leave them in tears.
