Description During the 16th century, Japanese pirates proliferate along the Chinese coastline. In 1557, the pirates take over Cengang in Zhejiang. After months of futile advances, Commander Yu (Sammo Hung) finally defeats them under the leadership of newly promoted General Qi (Vincent Zhao). The pirates, however, manage to escape. In 1561, the pirates regroup and once again attack the coastal cities of China. With both the cities of Xinhe and Taizhou under attack, Qi's army is caught between two fires. Even though most family members of his soldiers are located in Xinhe, Qi makes the tough decision to go to Taizhou and leaves his wife in charge of the fight against the pirates in Xinhe, knowing that the defeat of the pirates' elite team in Taizhou will bring long lasting peace to the coastal cities.

The first thing you notice about this movie is that it has a story that's both very straightforward and very different from any other martial arts movie you'll ever see. The story involves the band of thieves who kidnap a mysterious woman and drag her into their stronghold. Their leader, named "The Blacksmith", has plans to destroy the United States, but doesn't realize that he has just created a major firestorm in his own country, and that he is about to be blown away by the very country that he is about to destroy. The second thing you notice is the martial arts and stunts. The martial arts here are very well done and very interesting, as well as the stunts. The stunts are very impressive, and it makes you wonder how they were able to pull them off. The last thing you notice is the director, Chang Cheh. I think that he is very talented and has a very distinctive style, but I also think that he is a bit of a hack and that he just doesn't know what he's doing. There are a few things that he does that I think are very, very bad, like the scene where the main character is doing the leg sweep in the air with all of his weight on his leg. The camera is just in too much of a position that it's hard to tell what's going on, and it makes the scene extremely difficult to follow. And there are other scenes that are very poorly done that are in no way necessary. But that's just a few minor issues that I had with the film. Overall, I think that this movie is very good and very enjoyable. It's a good movie that is worth watching.
