There is something that always comes out in films, whether it is the viewer, the viewer's partner or the audience. Often times it is referred to as a "trigger". In the case of The 80's remake of "A Christmas Carol" the trigger was the movie itself. The original film, which is the one the remake was based upon, was a gritty no-holds barred story that kept the audience on the edge of their seat. It is by no means a flawless movie, but it is the one that I enjoy watching the most. The 80's remake on the other hand is a cheesy, cardboard cut-out re-telling of the original story. The original film has more style, more style, and more style. The remake simply tries to add a little bit of every thing that went into the original story and try to cash in on the popularity of the original. They try to throw in a few extra scenes that the original did not have. They try to put in too many cheesy lines and scenes from the original that the original did not have. They do this for the sake of being a "remake", they do not try to be anything else. It just comes off as cheap, pandering, and stupid. The 80's remake is not the worst movie ever made, it is simply one that is not worth watching. There is a reason why the original film was so popular. It is the classic story, the style, and the style alone. The 80's remake does not even come close to the original. For the record, if you are a fan of the original film and want to see the 80's remake, do not watch it. It is nothing like the original, and I think you will not enjoy it. I am not suggesting you avoid this film, but do not try to be a fan of the original. Watch the original film. It is not a remake, but it is one of the most important films in the history of film.
